A great free event on the Utrecht Festival Agenda at the beginning of summer is the TREK Food Truck Festival. Held in 2014 from the 6th – 9th June and set up across the Stadsschouwburg on the eastern edge of the city centre, it’s well located and easy to pop in and out of all weekend.

The number of food trucks at the festival, is much less then it’s Amsterdam counterpart, Rollende Keukens however the quality of the trucks and the overall “Gezellig-ness” is A++!

Festival go-ers were treated to amazing pre-summer weather all weekend, great tunes thanks to the funky Tractor DJ and plenty of spaces to lay a blanket and enjoy the food-truck vibe (and food!). We dropped by a couple times over the weekend so we could get our hands on as many types of food as possible – and success! I finally got my whole, fresh coconut! Pulled pork buns were again a favourite, as were the Bio Frietz and gourmet coffee sausage (koffiewurst) thanks to BAQ-fiets!

All in all, a successful and fun weekend in Utrecht and one for locals (and the lucky international travellers) to enjoy!

Dutchie Laura lived in Utrecht for 10 years. And the Domcity has developed ever since. More and more coffee bars have popped up and there are a lot of places to grab a sandwich on the go or stay for work. Best of all, Utrecht has a wide variety in of restaurants. Laura’s favorite? Anything with sushi, pasta, Indian, vegetarian, burgers, fish, meat, classic French… she’s not picky at all!
