A few weeks ago, a dream came true for the only 25 year old Koen Hendriks, when he started his own restaurant: Koenraad. Of course, we visited the place and experienced a whole night full of good dishes and good wine.

Koenraad is located in the building at the Voorstraat where restaurant Rode Vosch used to be located. They turned the place up into a stylish restaurant, whose layout is based on the city of Utrecht. They kept the fireplace and put a ‘loveseat’ in front of it. Perfect for the winter days, which are coming soon.

After such a promising intro you must be curious about what we ate. Little side note: all their products are mostly based on products of local suppliers.

We started both with marinated salmon with beet and smoked butter. For the main dishes we choose the Dutch Rib-eye with marrow, sprouts and celeriac and the Guinea fowl white beans and mushrooms. Both very pleasant! As dessert we took the Pear with elderflower syrup crème Suisse and mint and the Burnt basque with ginger and blueberry miso. This last one was our favourite! We love blueberries!

Besides all these delicious dishes, Koenraad has another plus: the separate area above the restaurant. This room is furnished the same as the restaurant and offers space for around 20 to 40 guests. For example a private dinner or drink with your friends to celebrate a graduation. Did you become enthusiastic about this exclusive area? Drop by the Koenraad boys and ask about the possibility

Pro’s

  • Their menu, which is based on products of local suppliers
  • The separate room above the restaurant

Con’s

  • They don’t have a terrace for in the summer
