We’re really keen to tell you about this gem, right in the center of Utrecht: restaurant De Zakkendrager. Last week we went for diner at this beautiful, re-styled spot.

One of the things that immediately catches our eyes is the garden. Normally the garden is open but visitors aren’t allowed to sit here, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic they’ve got a temporary permit. We really recommend sitting in the garden on a great sunny day!

We’re welcomed by Eelco, who manages daily business at De Zakkendrager. He shows there are around 10 tables in the garden so there’s limited space. Fun fact: the garden holds the oldest tree in the centrum of Utrecht. Eelco is a great host and tells us quite some things about the history, re-styling and about which wines to choose.

For diner we really enjoyed 3 courses. We started with the soup of the day: yellow paprika soup. For the main course we had baked salmon and chicken saté, which we both really recommend. For our finale course we split the lemon cake with strawberry sorbet.

We really recommend checking out the garden, and while doing so enjoy some lunch or diner as well. Great place, great host and most important: great food and drinks!
