The secret to great beauty in Utrecht appears to be right in the heart of our city! Spa Cube is a gorgeous and fresh beauty salon owned and managed by Claudie Geurts. With many years of experience in the beauty industry both internationally and within the Netherlands, Claudie is an expert, in particular, with the world-famous, Dermalogica range of skin and body products.
I was lucky enough to be invited into her salon to test and try a few of her most popular treatments; a Gel Manicure, Spa Pedicure and Skin Treatment Facial. I have to say that I was blown away by her care, knowledge and of course conversation and walked away feeling refreshed and with some brand new skin goals!
The Spa Manicure is definitely my regular go-to treatment! It’s a nice treat that doesn’t break the bank and considering its longevity (almost 2 weeks) I can definitely justify it! Claudie’s treatment is traditional and includes a hand soak, clipping, filing, cuticle treatment and polish. The salon stocks a wide variety of Gelish and Essie polishes statisfying what ever colour-craving you may have! Claudie noticed my nails were particularly weak after a not-so-good previous gel-nail treatment and also offered me a complimentary nail repair treatment which was applied prior to the Gel Polish. Not only does it protect and actively repair my natural nail, it extends the longevity of the Gel Polish from 2 to potentially 3 weeks! One week down and they are looking absolutely magnificent still!
Next up was a much-needed Spa Pedicure which was hosted in a custom-made pedicure bath. This is a great additional treatment to splurge on with the Spring weather upon us (read: it’s time to get your toes out!). If you can withstand the occasional tickles as your old skin is removed, the rejuvenated fresh skin will shine through and you’ll be dancing out of Claudie’s Spa Cube! Hot tip: there are English magazines which makes my expat-heart happy!
Last but most certainly not least, was the Skin Treatment Facial. A facial truly makes you feel like no other. It’s a new level of cleansing and the thought of applying a spot of makeup afterwards seems criminal! I also found this to be the most educational of the three treatments as I am always wanting to learn about how to improve my skin. To be honest Claudie saw right through me and could tell I don’t drink enough water each day (guilty as charged) however she says not all is lost! After a double foaming cleanse, a good steam, an extraction session (ouch, but so good) and a couple much needed layers of moisturiser I felt rejuvinated and with a new lease on my skin’s life! Did I mention the treatment chair is heated? Honestly, the most relaxing hour you can imagine!
With all the knowledge Claudie passed onto me, I’ll be making a monthly appointment with her to continue our skin plan. With my wedding booked in for June 2016, it’s on my must-do list to ensure I am looking as great as possible, for as long as possible.
