On the edge of the Voorveldsepolder (right outside Utrecht), you will find Loft 88. Even though the name is Loft, the building looks more like an authentic farm. At Loft 88 you’ll find the rural feeling while still being very close to the city. And after I found out that they also serve wood oven pizzas, I knew this was the place for me to enjoy a summer evening out!

Costs: € 15 – € 20 for a main dish. Location: Biltsestraatweg 88

The very first thing that will catch the eye is the immense terrace that Loft 88 has, seriously guys, for Utrecht’s standards, it is huge. What I love about their terrace is that it is very varied, from lounge sofas to dining tables and bar tables, you’ll find everything here! Since we were not that hungry yet, we decided to start off easy and unwind with an antipasti platter. Think: loads of cheese, meat, olives, bread and dips. What I always love about this is that you can easily share and taste everything with the people you are dining with. In this case I brought my boyfriend so the both of us couldn’t stop saying: OMG you have to try this!

Italian taste in Utrecht
After dreaming away, back to our holiday in Italy, we decided it was time for some more (Italian) food. And what says Italia more than Prosciutto e tartufi pizza. My significant other was obviously not feeling the same vibe and decided to pick the other speciality on the menu: the Loft Royale burger. And we all know guys and meat. You know that typical smile a guy gets when he tastes a good burger? That smile was on his face for the rest of the evening :). Yes, we both agreed that the food was really tasty and was enough to feel satisfied.

So to sum it up: surprise, surprise: Loft 88 is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal. But luckily that’s not all! Every Sunday they host events and activities, in both the summer and autumn they have activities for the kids (like decorating cupcakes and tinkering) and later in the year they organize ‘Lazy Sundays’ with relaxing music or DJ’s. We’ll definitely return to enjoy that!

Pros

  • Their enormous terrace, a great place to enjoy the sun
  • Perfect for families with children
  • Authentic fireplace to enjoy in winter

Cons

  • Maybe not the best place for a romantic candlelight type of dinner
  • Very friendly but sometimes a bit chaotic staff
