Every year there is one festival I visit without doubt; Parade. Now I’ll be the first to admit I am not generally an arts/theatre fanatic (or rather, I don’t find myself seeking it out) however the bite-sized snippets provided at Parade are the perfect way for me to revel in all the wonder and amusement the art it has to offer. It’s a festival not-to-be missed!

From July 22nd – August 7th, you can join the travelling festival at Moreelsepark for over 100 theater, dance, mime and music shows in the famed tents, created especially for the festival.  In addition to the evening performances under the tents, there is an extensive Kids Parade with theater, music performances and workshops for the little ones. Between the shows grab yourself a seat and enjoy the great selection of specially selected food and drink vendors.

This year we were lucky enough to sit in on the musical performance by Club Helmbreker who brought to life Frank Sinatra’s Watertown in a melancholic and heartfelt performance. To say I was truly moved is an understatement. Although their sets have come to an end in Utrecht – I definitely recommend the musical performances for those a little less versed in the Dutch language (ie: me!).  To accompany a show or two, we have also made it a yearly tradition to sip Sangria at The Juicys, grab a burger from Haute Friteur and finish with DIY poffertjes from Gwen Marie while chilling to the sounds from the live bands.

You can buy entry tickets for €7.50 at the venue and show tickets are available for pre-purchase here (between 7 days and until 11am on show-day) or at the ticket booth and tents at Moreelsepark. Then all that’s left to do is enjoy summer in the city and the life, light and sounds of De Parade!

Dutchie Laura lived in Utrecht for 10 years. And the Domcity has developed ever since. More and more coffee bars have popped up and there are a lot of places to grab a sandwich on the go or stay for work. Best of all, Utrecht has a wide variety in of restaurants. Laura’s favorite? Anything with sushi, pasta, Indian, vegetarian, burgers, fish, meat, classic French… she’s not picky at all!
