As a little kid you would always get excited about pancakes. The first question I asked at a birthday party was: are there pancakes? So I kinda like this trend where different pancake houses open up shop in Utrecht! I selected three in Utrecht that will satisfy your inner child. Fair warning; your mouth will water after reading this article!
New kid on the block is Anna Pancakes! Located next to Hoog Catharijne and the busy shopping street this pancake house will be a perfect place to relax in between shopping. Load up on carbs with these delicious hearty and sweet pancakes like my favourite Bavarian Apple. I just love fruit with my pancakes and this one looked particularly tasty because of the brownies that came as a topping. With that I took a mint tea, but if you really want to satisfy your sweet tooth go for a (caramel) frappé.
Close to the Dom and very interesting if you want a Instaworthy picture! The Red Velvet Pancakes where good, a bit dry tho, but the menu offers a wide selection of other great sounding pancakes like the Unicorn Pancakes with white chocolate and cocos or the Nutella Pancakes! The interior is sugary sweet, think light pink chairs and lovely marble tables.
Biking through Utrecht can be quite fun especially if you leave the city centre and go towards Rhijnauwen to see some nature. When you get there grab lunch or dinner at Theehuis Rhijnauwen. The pancakes are typically Dutch; flat and big instead of small and fluffy. They have every pancake variety you can dream. Think sweet pancakes, veggie pancakes or more like a pizza, for everyone their own!
