Restaurant Pesto recently opened her doors at the lovely Veilinghavenkade and we had to check this restaurant out. Pesto is actually the big brother of de Ontdekking at the Voorstraat and definitely a catch for the family. This new restaurant can be characterized by fresh and biological food, good espresso’s, fine cheeses and great wines. We like it!
Costs: 13,75 – 19,00 for a main dish. Location: Veilinghavenkade 59
After a warm welcome we took a look at the extensive menu. It can be best defined by Italian cuisine with a new and unique touch. When you thought the Italian cuisine mostly exists out of pasta’s and pizza’s: think twice! Pesto serves traditional Italian dishes with very surprising additions to it. We started our dinner with a trio of poultry and carpaccio. I must admit that I have had many nice carpaccio’s in my life but this one is definitely my new number one. The carpaccio was served in a roll with the most amazing tête de moine cheese. Normally carpaccio is often served with parmesan cheese, but this Swiss cheese was such a nice and delicious surprise.
And the tasting continued when the main courses were served. You probably know Vitello Tonato: a delicious veal roast served with a sauce of eel. Pesto serves this as a main course with cabbage and potato carpaccio and this was delicious! When creating their menu they also didn’t forget about vegetarians and vegans. The portobello and risotto burger will make every vegetarian smile and the chocolate cake ‘After Eight’ is the dream of every vegan. Our favorite dessert on their menu is by far the lemon cake with amarena cherries. While eating the lemon cake we tried their homemade limoncello which made us dreaming of summers in Italy. Restaurant Pesto we will be back!
