When people say they are going to eat tapas, most of the time it’s ‘Dutch tapas’. The real Spanish tapas is hard to find in Utrecht. Until a few weeks ago, when Los Amigos opened its doors! The champaneria, famous in cities like Barcelona, is located at the Voorstraat and exceeds expectations!

Buen provecho: Cava and tapas

First, let me tell you about the cava: they have two kinds, brut (white) and rose. I liked both very much, the rose one is a bit sweeter than the white cava. Good to know is that all cava is imported from Spain, just like everything else in Los Amigos is. That’s why it feels like you really stand in a champaneria in Spain!

In Los Amigos you have different kinds of tapas. I tried a lot: the Jamon Iberico, the two croquettas, sardines and aceite, pimientos and a bocadillo lomo con foie gras. All very delicious, but my absolute favorite: the Jamon!

From Spain to the Netherlands: the typical champaneria

For those who have been to Spain: Los Amigos should look & feel familiar! Not only the food is typical, but also the whole ambiance will make you feel like you are in Spain. It’s small and there are not a lot of places to sit, because it’s normal to stand in a champaneria. You’ll find the menu on the wall and last but not least: the staff is really thoughtful. The menu is great to practice your Spanish, but in case you don’t understand anything: the staff will help you out and keeps an eye on you. The waiter who served me saw when my glass was empty, but it wasn’t empty for more then a second before it was filled again. So I would highly recommend Los Amigos to everybody! Have a drink and eat some tapas and enjoy the taste of Spain!

Pros:

  • Authentic champaneria
  • The tapas and cava are not expensive
  • Everything is imported from Spain

Cons:

  • There are just a few places to sit
